Sick man, I always try making dubstep but it mostly falls flat on its face, you've got the drums just right and the in-between-drop synths too, sounding lush. the main bass synth you use is good, but I reckon it could do with being spiced up a little and a little variation in its sound being added in every few beats or so... i mean i'm no expert, but I listen and analyse a fucking lot of dubstep coz I DJ with it. But yeah, really like the tune, done a good job with it, now i reckon the only thing you need to pull of from really-good-newgrounds-level to 'just really good' would be to add in some variation (in terms of sound, not rhythm or anything that's all good) in the bass-line. use some filters or effects or some shiz :) Hope I've helped and don't take my criticism badly, I like the song and I thought I'd tell ya how I think it could be improved too :)

Ye I pretty much agree with everything you've said! Dubstep nowadays has several different bass instruments working together after the drop and I'll aim to diversify my beats in the future :) Thanks for the comment!

p.s. Check your email, send me some links to your tracks and I'll drop some feedback.

Hahaha I was quite confused at the start - like hmm this sounds very stiff and weird, but then I saw in the description that it was composed for a Doom level and so completely understand :D very crazy and yes, adequately doom-like.

I like the sound of this :D but is it really video game?? haha

Pretty cool :D

Very interesting bass noises and dubstep 'yug yug's going on there. All joined together very well and interestingly, but I would say a few things could be better. e.g. the snare is quite 'lame' sounding. It's placed correctly and everything but if you could alter it to give it more of a smack and a bit of high end on it as well, like some white noise coming off of it, then that would be sick and it would just get you into the song more. Also, the sound levels of the bass seem to be very strange, the snare it louder and does not sound part of it all, where the mood is createdly brilliantly by the synths, it is let down by the poor quality of the drums. (I know it to be true in some of my songs too :D). I like the zelda-like twinkling noise that comes in as well, gives the impression of the main character riding the sea on a storm or something.

Cool stuff! a little improvement and this is a sick song ;D

Thank you so much! Garageband is super duper limited in the drum department and finding a wav file of a good bass drum and hi-hat and snare and such was too hard for me so I stuck with what garageband could give me. I understand what you said and reeeeeally appreciate the feedback!

ok so was this game a sort of puzzle game? Because I can see it working perfectly as that kind of BGM for a game of that sort. Nice one, how'd you make this? :)

Michael-Flaherty responds:

Using Cubase as my DAW, and Komplete 8, and the East West Composer Collection for virtual instruments. Or rather, some wonky software and my delightful imagination :)

Awesome shit man, I make some similar kind of stuff, very video game like, but this stuff has really achieved it and it's awesome. What stuff (programs) do you use to make this stuff, I use FL studios 9 but I can't ever make this kind of shit properly, would be cool if you could let me know how you go about doing it. Your stuff's great, cheers!

chaoticmarin responds:

I use FL Studio 9 too. I primarily use a handful of straight 8 bit samples plugged into DirectWave, which you should have, I then have to use bitcrusher to lower the quality of the audio to give it a more retro feel. I also compliment my songs with VSTis, a tremelo mixer, and a soundfont or two when appropriate. Not to mention I often attempt to remove channels when plausible and practical enough using basic composition skills and a bit of trial and error.

I apologize as what I can teach is limited, as I'm more or less completely self taught and thus am probably hard to understand. |P

Fuck yes.

Funky, I like it and find it interesting how the style changes constantly in the song.

Slagsmalsklubben

I like it, it sounds alot like slagsmalklubben

cheshyre responds:

I am not familiar with slagsmalklubben but I'll go check them out right away! Thanks!!

Nice

This is really chilled I like it, can I ask what program you used to make it?

Music & Sound for Games! That's right, you heard me. Sound & Music... for games. Yes, games with Sound & Music. Have you played any? I've played a couple. They were fun.
